Behind the Bench: How It’s Made 

This necklace began with a vision of lighthearted elegance—something playful, yet refined. In our San Diego studio, each heart is first sketched to scale, ensuring precise balance across the necklace. 

We use solid 14K yellow gold sheet, which is hand-cut with a jeweler’s saw into six miniature heart silhouettes. At this scale, precision is everything. One wrong angle throws off the symmetry, so each heart is carefully refined by hand until perfectly shaped. 

Once the hearts are cut and polished, we begin the most delicate phase—enameling. We mix small batches of enamel pigments in house, aiming for just the right depth and brightness in each color. 

Then, using a micro spatula, we carefully fill each gold heart with enamel—one by one. After drying, the hearts are kiln-fired at high temperatures to bond the enamel to the gold. 

This step is crucial; the temperature must be exact, or the enamel cracks or dulls. Multiple firings ensure an ultra-smooth, glass-like finish. 

Finally, the hearts are aligned and affixed to a handcrafted 14k gold chain. We test the spacing, balance, and movement until everything flows with fluid grace. It’s a necklace that took many iterations to perfect—and one we’re deeply proud of.
